It was the site of ''Zhouyuan'' (Chinese: 周原; Pinyin: Zhōuyuán), the first capital of the Zhou Dynasty (1066 - 256 BCE). Historically, the site was also known as Qiyi (岐邑) or Qishan (岐山). It is located in Fengchu township on the Weishui River to the south of Mt. Qi.〔Ministry of Culture, 2003〕 Many Zhou-era artifacts included bronzeware have been found here.
